The live-action film of Tatsuki Fujimoto's 'Look Back' one-shot manga is set to open in Japan on September 11, 2026. The trailer reveals a new cast, including Masaki Suda as Maeda, Kankurō Kudō as Tamai, Kayo Noro as Akari, Ryō Ikeda as Nishi, Miyu Sasaki as Megumi, Maho Yamada as Manabe, and more. The film will be directed and edited by Hirokazu Kore-eda, with a screenplay written by him as well. Yūta Bandō is composing the music. The film will be released in theaters in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland by GKIDS. The anime film adaptation of 'Look Back' opened in Japan in June 2024 and ranked #2 in ticket sales, earning 227 million yen in its first three days. GKIDS also screened the film in North America in October 2024, where it earned US$688,253 in its opening weekend. The one-shot manga was debuted on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ in July 2021 and had over 2.5 million views on its first day. Viz Media and MANGA Plus launched the manga digitally in English, and it was published in print in September 2022. The story follows the overly confident Fujino and the shut-in Kyomoto, who are brought together by their love of drawing manga. The film's release marks a significant milestone in the career of Hirokazu Kore-eda, who is known for his critically acclaimed films such as 'Shoplifters' and 'Our Little Sister'.
